The town of Merano is located at 325 metres above sea level and sprays a really particular and relaxing atmosphere; even the most doubtful tourists will be dazzled.
Here you can enjoy a typical Mediterranean climate, which stimulates the growing and spreading of numerous incredible types of flowers, which reach their prime in spring, when they provide the town with a sea of colours and scents, which are difficult to be found elsewhere.
When strolling along the charming streets of the centre your eyes will be fixed upon the numerous shop windows of the prestigious shops that can be found under the arbours of the town or even in the most hidden corners….Merano is renowned for this too.
As we have already mentioned it is thanks to its favourable position in the shelter of the mountains of the natural Tessa Group, that you can enjoy a particularly mild and temperate climate in this natural basin. This also promotes the amount of excursions through the town streets or along the shores of the Passirio river, which are rich in exotic and Mediterranean plants. Just to mention a few we recommend an excursion along the Passirio, the Gilf excursion, the Tappeiner path and others. Mentioning them all is impossible, but we suggest you take the time to explore them in person.
Very renowned are also the elegant Merano Thermal Baths, a health curing location renowned on a national and international level. After a long period of renovation the Thermal Baths were reopened during the autumn season and we are sure that they meet even the highest expectations.
Merano also offers many sports facilities in winter and in summer time: from skiing to all activities on snow (ski resort Merano 2000 located nearby), to the beauties of the famous hippodrome. However, golf, tennis, archery and swimming is also possible. Again it is impossible to mention them all here, but again we invite you to come and find out for yourself.
From an artistic and cultural point of view you will not be disappointed by the former capital of Tyrol. Here you can find testament to the splendour and the prestige, that Merano enjoyed also in the past. Manor houses, noble residences, castles and enchanting churches can be admired in the town streets and provide a picturesque and suggestive impression.
Definitely worth being mentioned is also the interesting “Evelyn Ortner” Women’s Museum, and the Trautmannsdorf Museum, which was originally a castle and is now decorated with a marvellous and impressive botanic garden at its interior.
After reading this short description of Merano you will understand that it is impossible to be disappointed by a holiday in this town. We have something for all tastes: old and young will make Merano their favourite holiday destination!!
