Meraner Land: Lana and Surrounding

Lana and surrounding

Lana is located at 274 metres above sea level and is divided into the villages of Upper Lana, Middle Lana and Lower Lana and the fractions of Fojana, Acquaviva and Pavicolo.

It is located only 7 kilometres from the renowned health cure centre Merano. Lana can easily call itself a real touristic centre of the Burgraviato region. It is surrounded by the scents of the numerous fruit gardens of the area and is the ideal place for relaxing and carefree holidays.

Here you can enjoy endless adventurous excursions of all levels of difficulty; however, Lana also has other things to offer. In Lana you can practice nearly any sports you like: from bike excursions to outings by horse, always amidst a scenic natural picture, which is unique of its type, to a game of golf on the new and well equipped 9-hole golf course, which is of course also located amongst the fruit gardens and vineyards of the area. And if this is still not enough, you can improve your skills on the nearby ski slopes. This will definitely satisfy you.

Neither will you remain disappointed from a historic point of view. The Gothic altar from Hans Schnatterpeck in the parish church of Lana di Sotto (Lower Lana) is also unbelievably beautiful. It truly is a piece of art in late-Gothic style and is renowned for its height (14 metres) and the large number of figures. Also worth a visit are the Santa Margherita Church in Roman style with impressive frescos dating back to 1215, and the San Magno Chapel, which can be found in the old farm of the Benedictine’s convent of San Mang-Füssen.

The number of churches and patrician residences are spread across the entire area and are very numerous. We recommend going for relaxing excursions in this region and enjoy culture and nature at the same time.
Another curiosity that can’t be forgotten: do not leave Lana before visiting the South Tyrolean Fruit Farming Museum. It is the first of its kind in South Tyrol and displays the various cultivations, which could be found in this region during the course of the years, over approximately 2,000 m². The Agricultural Museum in Foiana and the Museum of South Tyrolean Fauna in Postal are also worth mentioning. Of course a visit to these museums, as short as it may be, is compulsory.
